Iraqi rescue dogs

>   Dog News, Shelters  —  anya  @  10:29 am

In light of some disturbing accounts of the treatment of dogs in war-torn areas of the world by US troops, it’s refreshing to hear some inspiring stories about soldiers rescuing dogs and bringing them back to the US to live with their families.

A friend forwarded me this story about Nubs, a German Shepherd/Border Collie mix, being reunited with the marine who rescued him.  Incredibly, when the Marine’s unit was relocated, Nubs somehow tracked them to their new location 70 miles away!!

The SPCA (Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) International is one organization that raises money to rescue dogs around the world.   The group says it gets several requests a day to help rescue dogs that soldiers befriend in both Iraq and Afghanistan.   wcbstv.com ran an article a few weeks ago about two of the dogs that have been rescued with the financial support of SPCA International.

We wish these wonderful dogs all the best in their new lives!

  1. My name is Shay Schaefer and i am trying to bring a little puppy here to the US from Iraq. My husband is a solider for the US Army and is stationed there at this time.
His soldiers and He are trying to get this little guy back here. They found him will on patrol, he was being abused by some Iraqi teens. He was pretty badly injured from this. They took this puppy whom they have dubbed Pachino. They have nursed Pachino back to health. After putting so much love and affection in to this pup they don’t want to see him condemned to death as would happen when they leave. So these young men are trying to get him home with them. We have an adoptive home for him when he gets here. We just need to get him here, and have no idea how to accomplish this. I have taken it upon myself to make this happen, but i need help. I have gotten all the paper work for him to be able to enter the US. Now I am looking for a way to get him from Iraq to the US, Ft. Carson Colorado to be Persis. If there is anyone who can help us make this happen please contact me at
    corinthians915@yahoo.com or 719) 559-7805

There is on catch they will be leaving Iraq on February 02, 2009 so we are in a bit of a hurry.
    Please Help Us Save Pachino!!!!
