Greatest American Dog - I can’t WAIT!!
Oscar and I are counting down the days until the first episode of Greatest American Dog, which will happen on July 10th at 8:00pm. Even though Oscar will always be the greatest American dog in my book, we are pretty excited for the first dog-related reality show. I’d certainly much rather watch some crazy dog people co-existing for 40 days than see a bunch of desperate women trying to get hitched to a farmer/millionaire/rapper.
There are certain tried and true reality TV formulas that tend to showcase the harsh realities of human nature (THINK: college kids, booze & no responsibility OR starving people, big $$ and an island), but I think we’re in for a real treat when 12 dog-obsessed people and their pups try to coexist for 40 days while competing for $250K.

Sure, they all look normal and nice enough in this picture, but I will be severely disappointed if there aren’t a few crazies in the group. The only disappointing thing so far is that it seems like there are a number of “aspiring actors/actresses” on the human side of the teams. Oh well…if reality TV really is a sign of an imminent apocalypse, I say…bring it on!!
There are two local New Yorkers competing for the title of Greatest American Dog - Elvis (a 2-year-old Parson Russell Terrier) and Bella Starlet (a 10-year-old Toy mix)…oh yeah, and their respective owners - David & Beth Joy.

Best of luck to all of the contestants! What do you think…Oscar for season #2?!?!

I actually auditioned for this show. Not to be a contestant, but to be a part of one of the challenges as an art expert. I am very curious to see who they went with (I was honestly relieved– not into being in front of the camera).

No way! Sorry to hear you didn’t get to go on the show, but good for you for auditioning! I’m too chicken to ever do an audition, even though I know Oscar would be a star (ha, ha).

Everyone should check out all of the funny videos of Elvis, one of the dogs from The Greatest American Dog, on www.thedoctorschannel.com by searching “Elvis” on the site.
Take a look!

Hi Stacie - I did some searching, but can’t seem to find any info on auditions for a 2nd season of GAD. My guess is that they’re waiting to see how successful this first season is before committing to a 2nd.
PS - Don’t tell me who got booted last night - I have it on the DVR, but wasn’t home to watch!

I liked the show’s concept – but mostly the dogs so much I created a song especially for all the great American dogs out there. Check it out at http://www.musicforanimals.org It’s a free download, it’s fun and it’s for all the dogs that mean so much to all of us dog lovers. Dogs Rule!
